SHELTON, CONNECTICUT

Shelton Connecticut is located in Fairfield County. The City of Shelton (formerly known as Huntington) was incorporated in 1789 from Stratford as a town and incorporated in 1919 as a city. Comprised of 31.4 square miles in Fairfield County, Shelton's northwest boundary is the Housatonic River. Shelton's 38,000 residents enjoy suburban-style neighborhoods, green parks, pumpkin patches, and historic churches and homes.

From its earliest days as an industrial center in the historic Housatonic River Valley, Shelton is now known for its community pride and dedication to innovative development. Today, the perfect blend of a pleasant residential community and a fertile business environment exists within its boundaries. Shelton has one of the state's lowest and predictable tax rates, and one of its lowest unemployment rates.

Shelton's downtown, factories, bridges, two-family homes, and business centers make it seem that Shelton is more closely associated with its neighbor, New Haven County than with Fairfield County because it resembles New Haven County's Naugatuck River Valley.

Shelton offers over 450 acres of accessible public space, including a paved recreation path ,a reservoir, hiking trails, boat launches, and 230-acre Shelton Lakes Park.

Residents enjoy playgrounds and sports feilds, outdoor summer concerts and a community center with a swimming pool. Housing is still affordable in Shelton. The average home price for the 2nd Quarter 2007 was just over $440,000.
